GEMS Poster
$15.00
This educational POSTER shares the characteristics of Teepa’s GEMS® and is a beautiful and thought provoking addition to any environment seeking awareness for individuals working or living with dementia. Learn from the Sapphire, Diamond, Emerald, Amber, Ruby and Pearl cognitive and physical abilities shared in this dementia classification model. The 22″ x 28″ poster promotes positive perspective and realistic expectations for interaction with changing states and abilities due to brain change. Teepa’s model encourages providers to learn to assess “moments” of ability and respond accordingly. Dementia creates structural but also chemistry brain change that can cause individuals to move in and out of GEMS® levels monthly, weekly, or even daily. This education and exposure to specific indicators of ability is sure to grow observation skills, person-centered care practices, and empathy for those living with dementia.

This is a great addition to the gems program created and taught by Teepa Snow. It is an at a glance, informative source that can be utilized by staff and visitors. When we don’t know what to say to someone with dementia, we often can’t initiate interaction. This source makes it easy!!
I put this on the wall in the hallway at the Area Agency on Aging. I recommend it to every care facility I visit. This poster helps us identify what the person living with dementia is experiencing and what we can do to help make their days better.
The Living Gems is a clear and positive introduction to appreciating the complexity and overlapping experiences when working with persons with cognitive/brain changes. A sound visual help. Concept decreases medical model labeling. I would consider changing Naturally Flawed to something more positive. Otherwise, I highly value tool.
Good information. Such a big poster and with small writing, it’s hard to take all in. A hand held laminated version would be helpful. Keep up the good work!
Hi ! Oh please. what a wonderful poster, but all the competing background makes it hard for us to read!! I would make a more simple background so we can focus on the information we so desparately need!
I received part of my order several weeks before I got the poster and when I received it It was damaged on one side.
The posters are fantastic, a simple and accessible way for referencing and cueing.
I have put this poster up in our Memory Care area. The nurses and aides are enjoying trying to figure out what gem the residents are and how they can intermingle into another gem.
