Bathing Challenges – Exploring OUR Role for a Person Who Communicates Disagreement or Distress with Actions More than Words (Recorded Webinar)

$20.00

This session is focused on working with someone who does not appreciate, understand, or see the value of getting clean when it involves another person assisting or helping them. It addresses common errors or mistakes that we might be making in our efforts to support and communicate that trigger strong and physical reactions. It also emphasizes the possibility of missed cues and indicators of escalating distress, confusion, or efforts to stop or slow actions. We compare common interactions and outcomes to more positive and effective engagements and results. The session features action simulations and case discussions with demonstration of specific supportive techniques and strategies.

Personal Care (Bathing, Dressing) for GEMS States (Recorded Webinar)

This recorded webinar addresses the topic of personal care throughout the GEMS states of dementia.  Assisting someone with undressing, getting clean, and getting dressed again is not nearly as simple as when we do it for ourselves!  In this webinar, explore the skills and abilities that are required for personal care, and the ways in which changes in abilities during dementia progression affect the ability to do these tasks by oneself.  Then, learn how to better provide assistance during personal care to increase the chance for positive interactions and outcomes.
By the end of this webinar, you will be able to:
  • Identify the skills needed to perform personal care tasks
  • Describe how changes in skill during dementia progression affect personal care abilities
  • Discuss techniques to improve outcomes during assisting with personal care

Bathing and Getting Clean Issues for Family/Friends (Recorded Webinar)

Keeping oneself clean and fresh is a complex task and serves several different purposes.  Dementia causes changes in perception, memory, sensations, mobility, and dexterity, as well as perspective, personal values, and relationships that often make this task a particular challenge.  Explore possible alternatives and options for getting clean, and learn about specific interventions to increase the probability of successful and adequate hygiene.

By the end of this webinar, you will be able to:

  • Understand how the brain changes of dementia contribute to bathing, showering, and other hygiene challenges
  • Recognize various options and alternatives for getting clean
  • Describe techniques for improving interactions involving hygiene care
