Karen Tuvia is a Certified Positive Approach to Care™ Independent Trainer, a Certified Dementia Practitioner, and a Certified Validation Worker. Additionally, she is certified in Rev-In-Motion, which is a dementia related movement program, Sing-Fit which connects music to movement and a Chair-Chi Instructor. Karen is the Memory Care Director of an assisted living memory care community in Santa Monica, California. She also has a private practice in facilitating communication between family members and their loved ones with dementia. She has a very personal connection to dementia care working every day with her residents with dementia and their families, assisting them in navigating through the course of the disease. Karen’s personal family experience has been over many years with her mother-in-law and her aunt, both of whom had dementia. Their journey helped Karen develop her path to the work she has done now for 10 years, to connect with people and educate their families to the many facets of dementia. Karen’s life passion is to help families to understand the complicated changes that are occurring inside the brain of their loved ones with dementia. Through her work, her private practice, and her dementia education classes, Karen helps those who work with and care for people with dementia to understand the process of our brain. By understanding the brain, we can empathize, adjust our approach and expectations, and be able to connect and communicate with those with dementia more easily. Her personal experience in caring for people with dementia makes her approachable and adds to her success in easing the difficulties that are present in these situations.
