Live Webinar

Live Webinar: Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, and Rensselaer Counties Offices for Aging

This event has been converted to a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic:

The ABCs of Dementia and Caregiving

Description:       This session is designed to help learners understand the definition of dementia, and some characteristics of the most common forms of dementia.  Attendees will also discover the many brain changes associated with dementia, and how those changes affect function and behavior.  Techniques and methods for improving caregiving situations will also be discussed.  By recognizing and using this information, learners can have more positive interactions with those living with dementia.  This session will be interactive and will provide learners with valuable insights into their role in dementia care.

The Effects of Social Isolation for those Living with Dementia

Description:       This session will focus on the effects of social isolation, such as that experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic, for those living with dementia. The goal of maintaining social distancing among people living with dementia is extremely challenging and, in some cases, impossible.  The risk of these practices involves causing potentially irreparable harm to the psychological well-being of these individuals living with dementia, as well as their relationship with those providing the only human contact they are likely receiving in this situation.  This session will highlight practices to optimize the well-being of all involved, as well as addressing possible signs and symptoms of depression and anxiety to recognize in those living with dementia.
