Master Class: Behavioral Symptoms of Dementia: Hallucinations and Delusions, Oct. 19, 2-5 pm ET
Behavioral Symptoms of Dementia; Hallucinations and Delusions
October 19th, 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm ET
Hallucinations and delusions are identified as common behavioral symptoms of dementia. These symptoms are generally extremely disturbing for the person living with dementia and challenging for those that provide care. Reframing them as visual, auditory, or sensory disturbances and errors in thinking and logic that lead to acute episodes of distress and distrust can help us be more effective in our approach to provide support and help. In this Master Class, Teepa will address the some of most common challenges that happen when our realities are not matching. During the session, she will provide different specific verbal and nonverbal strategies for how to help when these situations arise.
The Master Classes are three hours in length and designed to provide opportunities to improve interactions with individuals who are living with various forms of brain change. Each session will focus on ways to use the abilities and interests of those living with brain change for more positive experiences. We will seek to recognize the power we have to make a difference for all involved, expand our collective knowledge, and build our skills in creating and delivering programming and opportunities that make life more valuable and enjoyable for all involved, while fostering preserved abilities and promoting physical and emotional resilience.
