Dear Readers,

Happy New Year! Thank goodness we made it through 2020! As we turn the corner into 2021, I am going to shift from my typical format of answering reader questions to share some details about what you might expect from a consulting relationship with Positive Approach to Care® in the year to come.

First and foremost, the word relationship is key. We seek to connect with you, the person, as we work together to explore next steps relevant to your specific situation. We acknowledge that there are no one-size-fits-all solutions to the challenges that come along with dementia-related conditions. The many different varieties of dementia, as well as the uniqueness of each and every individual involved, both the individual who is living with dementia and those in the circle of care, contribute to the complexity. Once we are able to connect and explore a bit about the details of your situation, we strive to help you determine a next step to take. We also provide a couple of resource ideas to support you along the way.

The resources we may suggest come in many different forms, and will be tailored to individuals based on their own personalities, learning styles, and sensory preferences. As we are aware that all of our various offerings can be a bit overwhelming, we take the time to get to know you and customize our resource suggestions to best meet your needs.

For example:

If you learn best by watching content, we might offer a video clip(s) relevant to your specific need. We have many available: some free, some for a small fee. Click here for free video clips.

If your preference is to listen to content, then our podcasts may be just right. They are brief, topic-specific, and can easily be completed during a short period of time. Click here for access to podcasts.

If you prefer to learn by doing and/or with a group, perhaps one of our more interactive courses or events might be the best fit for you. Click here for online Care Partner Support Series.

We also like to nurture the relationships beyond our initial connection, and we do that in a number of different ways. For example, we offer additional one-on-one consultations, as well as group offerings (online care partner support series, care partner support network, skills courses), and skill building/coaching for care staff in both private family homes and communities. While COVID-19 continues to present risks for in-person contact, these offerings are provided virtually through the Zoom platform. We continue to be pleased with how effectively this virtual option is working. We have many available options to assist you, and the above are just a few examples. As our relationship continues to grow, we are able to better connect you to the resources that best meet your often changing needs.

We want you to know that we are here for you, and if you haven’t reached out yet, perhaps 2021 is the year to do so. As we often say, the journey of dementia is a marathon, not a sprint, and we would be honored to be your partner along the way. To get started, please connect with us at
