Have you ever experienced something like this when you were just trying to help?

Let’s take a step back and imagine the scene from the other side…

Imagine I have been hanging around your house all day messing with your things, cleaning, and cooking.

You are sitting quietly in your living room, and I approach with a smile and your name.

I look vaguely familiar and friendly, so you smile back.

Then, though you must have missed some of the words, it seems that I’m asking you to take your clothes off and take a shower with me.

How many of you would say “yes”?

This is the struggle when brain change is involved. It is easy for you to notice when I need to get clean, but it is very uncomfortable for me to do this with you or anyone else; that is not how I’ve done it for a very long time.

We spend a lot of time trying to convince, trick, coerce, and even force people to do something that we don’t even want to do when it comes to getting clean. Time to call a Teepa Time-Out and see if we can find another method that may just help us both, while saving time overall.

Now watch this video for two possible steps that build a relationship and may help this situation go a little bit differently for Abby and for Teepa.

The previous clips are from the Bathing and Getting Clean Issues webinar for professionals, where Teepa spends time breaking down this process of getting clean. In this one-hour webinar, she and Abby present a more positive way of getting things done for both parties. Feel free to check it out for only $10 per webinar.

You can also find the same topics for families. Keep an eye out for future live webinars so that you can ask your questions in real time.

For those of you looking for a quick intro for free, check out this video on YouTube that Teepa did many years ago demonstrating some easily applied strategies for making the actual shower part more bearable for the individual.

Speaking of live webinars, for those of you who still want more on this topic, Teepa will be running a live webinar with more clips like this one on bathing and getting clean from our trip to the UK. We will be digging deep and figuring out how to make getting clean a positive, productive effort.
